Omnipotent
Omnipotent is made up of two words; omni meaning all and potent meaning powerful. John the revelator seen in vision the throne of God and those worshipping Him declaring that, "the Lord God omnipotent reigneth" (Rev. 19:6).
God declared unto Abraham, "I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect" (Gen. 17:1). Almighty meaning unlimited power. The prophet Jeremiah declared, God who "hath made the earth by his power" (Jer. 51:15). The power of God can "rebuke the devourer" for the sake of the saints that pay offerings unto the Lord (Mal. 3:11). The "Father" hath power to raise "up the dead and quickeneth them" (John 5:21). For the power of God "raised up Jesus from the dead" (Romans 8:11). As the apostle Paul continues to teach, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God" (Romans 13:1).
Christ is the manifestation of the "power of God, and the wisdom of God" (1 Cor. 1:24). By the power of God Christ, "rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm" (Matt. 8:26). Christ declares to his chosen apostles, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth" (Matt. 28:18). For Jesus taught, "with God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:26). For "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the Fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power" (Hebrews 1:1-3).
The prophet Nephi taught that the Lord is, "mightier than all the earth" (1 Nephi 4:1). We are to believe in the power of God as King Benjamin taught, "Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend" (Mosiah 4:9). Man is nothing compared with the power of God, "O how great is the nothingness of the children of men; yea, even they are less than the dust of the earth. For behold, the dust of the earth moveth hither and thither, to the dividing asunder, at the command of our great and everlasting God. Yea, behold at his voice do the hills and the mountains tremble and quake. And by the power of his voice they are broken up, and become smooth, yea, even like unto a valley. Yea, by the power of his voice doth the whole earth shake; Yea, by the power of his voice, do the foundations rock, even to the very center. Yea, and if he say unto the earth - Move - it is moved. Yea, if he say unto the earth - Thou shalt go back, that it lengthen out the day for many hours - it is done" (Hel. 12:7-14).
We are to give heed to the "voice of him who has all power, who is from everlasting to everlasting, even Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end" (D&C 61:1). The power of God shall scourge the nations, "For I, the Almighty, have laid my hands upon the nations, to scourge them for their wickedness. And plagues shall go forth, and they shall not be taken from the earth until I have completed my work" (D&C 84:96-97). For in the last days the power of God will not only "rend their kingdoms" but by His power He also shall "shake the earth" and the "starry heavens shall tremble" (D&C 84:118). For by, "the sword and by bloodshed the inhabitants of the earth shall mourn; and with famine, and plague, and earthquake, and the thunder of heaven, and the fierce and vivid lightnings also, shall the inhabitants of the earth be made to feel the wrath, and indignation, and chastening hand of an Almighty God, until the consumption decreed hath made a full end of all nations" (D&C 87:6). For the time will come when it will be declared that it is "finished" for "The Lamb of God hath overcome and trodden the wine-press alone, even the wine-press of the fierceness of the wrath of Almighty God" (D&C 88:107).
