Xpian
X is the Greek letter "chi," the initial letter in the word Xpiotos. Xpiotos means "Christ." Xpian and Xtian have been used in place of the word "Christian." Xmas was first used in the mid 1500s. The mas in Xmas is the Old English word for mass. Old English maesse, from Vulgar Latin messa eucharistic service, literally dismissal and from the Late Latin missa meaning dismissal. Called from the concluding words of the service, Ite, missa est, "Go, the prayer has been sent," or "Go, it is the dismissal."
